Michael Steele is oficially the new head of the Republican Party. The significance of this is pretty self-apparent. What are some of you opinions regarding the GOP's selection of its first African American Chairman? It obviously comes at a time of racial and social progress in America, but will it actually work to reform the image of the GOP as an "ol' boys" club? By the way, I apologize for the source. It won't happen again.

Black or White, it was about time the GOP started to clean house. After losing countless seats during the last Midterm Election and getting dominated this past November, the best bet for the future of the GOP is to clean house and start over. Until now they had had the same leadership for the past few years, of which, the party has only gone downhill.
ReplyDeleteIf the GOP was a private sector company, the "CEO" of the party would have been ousted a long time ago...but because it is politics where personal allegiances, favors, etc. often trump just about anything, the parties leadership has stayed in place and the party has suffered.
It could be a Gov. Sarah Palin move, now trying to get some of the black vote, but I think just about anyone would have been better than the leadership of the past few years. I just quickly googled this topic and found an artice noting what the top priorites of the GOP should be over the next few years and they are as follows (taken from MSNBC):
1 -- Win minorities & young voters
2 -- Move beyond the south
3 -- Keep up w/ President Obama's fundraising abilities
4 -- Win back the center
